A fresh wave of COVID-19 has sparked protests and riots across Europe as people refuse to comply with restrictions imposed to control the pandemic. Several videos on social media show people protesting against the resumption of COVID restrictions. Several videos show the protests turning violent and people uniting against the anti-Covid rules. In the Netherlands, rioters have been caught on camera, pelting stones and burning police vehicles. Fearing a fifth wave due to an alarming rise in Covid cases, France has moved to reimpose restrictions. This has led to sometimes violent protests in many French overseas territories. There were also demonstrations in Austria after the government announced a new lockdown and made it mandatory for everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Restrictions in these European countries have largely focused on banning unvaccinated people from public places such as restaurants, offices and shops.
