The Tamil Nadu government with the help of the British Council trains state officials in professional English

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the completion of a customized English language development course for the personnel of the Department of Industries and Commerce in the state. The program was specifically designed by the British Council with a strong focus on business (workplace) communication, email and report writing.

This was conveyed to 41 officers of the department from different districts of Tamil Nadu. Prior to training, candidates were assessed by British Council CELTA qualified teachers and divided into different batches based on their English proficiency. Based on the results of the level check, the academic team worked on the material for the courses.

The participants were placed in four batches from Upper Intermediate to Preliminary level. The courses were delivered over a period of approximately eight weeks, starting on 20 June and ending on 11 August. Three different courses were created – the first for 22.5 hours, the second for 45 hours and the third for 67.5 hours.

Grace Pachua, IAS, Additional Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu said, “It has been a wonderful experience working with the British Council to deliver this program on Business English Communication to our officers across the state. Specially adapted and curated courses provided a holistic understanding of communication in the English language that will add long-term value to our executives. We are confident that this training will enable officers to perform their tasks with greater confidence and efficiency. We have received a very positive response from the candidates and we look forward to launching more such programs with the British Council.”
