Mangaluru: Jashan Chhabra from Mangaluru, who scored 715 out of 720 NEET (UG) and All India Rank (AIR) 5, ranked first in Karnataka, said he never expected to secure the rank but aimed to do well in the entrance exam. He got the inspiration to become a doctorgood doctor,’ an American medical drama television series that he enjoyed watching.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Jashan, a student of Aakash Institute, who completed his PU from Mount Carmel Central School, said that he wants to become a medical professional after completing his matriculation. “I started preparing from class 11 itself and my family and most importantly my mother Anita supported my dream. Family, college, friends and coaching institute supported me even during the lockdown due to Kovid-19. I never expected to get the rank but wanted to do well in Tests,” Jashan said.
Amidst the hectic preparations for NEET, he kept some time to spend with his family and friends. “I wasn’t completely isolated from the outside world to focus on studies, but reserved a good time to be with my family and friends, which played a key role in achieving this feat.”
In his advice to NEET aspirants, Jashan asked candidates to study to gain knowledge, not just for the exam.
Though he secured 99.1 percentile in JEE Main 2021, he is determined to become a surgeon or cardiologist and start a new method of health care which will be based on economical and judicious use of medicines. he wants to join All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS), New Delhi.
Jashan secured AIR 20 in Aakash National Talent Hunt Exam (ANTHE), a national level scholarship test for school students. Jashan has also scored well in Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) 2020, a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Jashan’s mother is a science teacher, from whom she realized that concentration is important for academic success, which will come only when she develops an interest in the subject. His family hails from Punjab, and they settled in Mangaluru for educational purposes.
