In Mumbai, a liter of petrol now costs Rs 113.46 and diesel Rs 104.38 per litre. Petrol prices in Chennai remained above Rs 104 per liter and are currently selling at Rs 104.52 per litre; While the price of diesel was Rs 100.59. Of the four metro cities, Mumbai has the highest fuel rates, according to state-run oil refiners. Fuel rates vary from state to state due to Value Added Tax or VAT.
