There is a need for greater public-private partnerships for expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the country: Vice President

New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday called for collective efforts and greater public-private partnerships to expand healthcare infrastructure in the country.

Inaugurating FICCI’s 16th Annual Health Conclave ‘FICCI Heal 2022’, the Vice President said that Indian healthcare demands scale and diversity. “We need greater collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve the collective dream of universal healthcare.”

Noting the government’s initiative in establishing India as a global hub for medical and wellness tourism through the ‘Heal in India’ initiative, he said, “We need to appreciate India’s potential to become a ‘major health tourism destination’. Efforts to use should be doubled.”

The Vice President recalled India’s experience with COVID-19 and said that India has not only vaccinated its citizens in a short span of time, but has also exported vaccines to many countries. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of the healthcare sector, India has registered a significant decline in health indicators such as infant mortality rate since 1990. We are on course to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) goals.”

He said that ‘Ayushman Bharat’ has been instrumental in bridging the gap between rich and poor in terms of access to health services in the country.
