This Crispy Shanghai Chicken Recipe Is Ideal for Mid-Week Indulgence

This recipe doesn’t use any sauces or any other fancy ingredients. All you need is oil to fry the chicken and some basic spices, and you’re done. Shanghai Chicken is a delightful recipe that you have to try.

For the material, you will need:

  • 250 grams chicken breast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 2-star fennel
  • 3-6 dry kashmiri red chillies
  • 1-2 red-Green chilli – uncut
  • 1 small carrot – cut into round pieces
  • 1 tsp white sesame
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • fried chicken strip
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar

for coating

  • 2 cups cornstarch
  • 1 cup flour
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp white chili powder
  • oil for frying

Here is the method to prepare it:

  1. In a bowl, add egg, ginger garlic paste, salt, red chili powder and beat well. In another bowl, combine the cornstarch, all purpose flour, salt and white pepper powder and mix well. Now take the chicken and beat it and make it thin. Coat it first with the flour mixture and then with the egg mixture.
  2. heat oil in a Wok, When the oil is medium hot, fry the chicken slices on medium heat till golden brown. Take it out on absorbent paper. Cut it into strips and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadhai, add cinnamon stick, fennel, dry Kashmiri red chili, red-green chili and fry well. Add carrots, white sesame seeds, brown sugar and fried chicken strips and mix well. Add red chili powder and sugar and mix everything well. Once done, garnish it with spring onions and serve.
