This Indian airline allows passengers to pay for tickets in installments

SpiceJet today launched a new scheme under which passengers will be able to pay for tickets in three, six or 12 instalments.

“As part of the launch offer, customers will be able to enjoy EMI option of three months at no additional cost (no interest),” the airline said in a press release.

To avail the EMI scheme, passengers need to provide basic details like PAN number, Aadhaar number or VID and verify it with a one-time password.

Customers will have to pay the first EMI by providing their UPI ID and subsequent EMIs will be deducted from the same UPI ID.

It states that passengers will not have to provide any credit card or debit card details to avail the EMI scheme.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet has approved reduction of its domestic services by 31 per cent in the upcoming winter schedule to 2,995 weekly flights as against 4,316 weekly flights for the 2019 winter schedule, aviation regulator DGCA said on Thursday.

Another private carrier Vistara has increased its domestic services by 22 per cent to 1,675 weekly flights as against 1,376 weekly flights for the 2019 winter schedule, the regulator said.

The winter program begins on 31 October of one year and ends on 26 March of the following year.

In all, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved 22,287 weekly domestic flights of Indian carriers for the 2021 winter schedule.

This number is four percent less than the 21,307 weekly flights approved for the 2019 winter schedule.

From May 25, 2020 to October 18, 2021, Indian carriers operated domestic flights with restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The civil aviation ministry lifted the restrictions from October 18.

“Accordingly, Winter Schedule 2021 has been approved without capacity restrictions, as submitted by scheduled domestic airlines,” the DGCA said on Thursday.

According to its data, Air India – which was sold to the Tata group earlier this month – will operate nine per cent fewer weekly domestic flights in the upcoming winter schedule than in 2019.

GoFirst – formerly known as GoAir – will operate 2,290 weekly domestic flights in the winter schedule of 2021 as compared to 2,308 weekly domestic services in the winter schedule of 2019, according to data shared by the DGCA.

As per the data, a total of 1,393 domestic services of AirAsia India have been approved for the winter schedule of 2021, as against 1,345 domestic flights approved for the same period in 2019.

With minor changes, India’s largest carrier IndiGo will operate 10,243 weekly domestic services in the upcoming winter schedule, as against 10,310 weekly flights approved for the same period in 2019.

Regional carrier Star Air will operate 137 weekly domestic flights in the winter schedule of 2021, compared to 62 weekly services for the same period in 2019, as noted.
