There are very few people on this planet who do not like to attend weddings. However, it is not every day that you get to hear about someone who makes a living by attending weddings as a bride. Jane Glantz attends weddings for money. She is also the author of the book ‘Always a Bridesmaid’.
According to a report by Vox, Glantz works with around 20-35 brides every year. She says that sometimes the job becomes easy. Sometimes it’s just eating cake and moving feet on the dance floor. But sometimes it means easing tensions between new in-laws or managing the situation that arises when the maid of honor is out of ceremony after an ugly meltdown.
The report further states that she charges a fee of $2,000 per client, which is referred to as a “contract of women’s solidarity”. Her career began after she posted an ad as a bridesmaid on Craigslist after being a bridesmaid to hundreds of friends. Hours, she was flooded with requests, after which she switched careers.
Now her website is ‘Bridesmaids for Hire’. Describing herself as the world’s first professional bridesmaid, Jen says she is so natural that sometimes the groom’s family or friends do not even suspect that she is not a real bridesmaid. According to Vox, she now trains other women to be part-time bridesmaids, has written two memoirs, and has diversified Bridesmaid for Hire into many different fields.
