Thomas Tuchel backs improvement at Mason Mount to realize potential at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has taken time to hit Top Gear this season but manager Thomas Tuchel said it is not unusual for young players to experience a drop in form and it was important to keep their confidence.

Mount, 22, was struggling to go early in the campaign after England’s race to the Euro 2020 final, a tournament in which he had to self-isolate as a close contact of Scotland’s Billy Gilmour, who tested positive.

However, he is coming back to his best in recent games and has scored 10 straight goals – six goals and four assists – in 13 Premier League games.

Only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (23) and Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis (12) have more.

“We can’t be surprised that sometimes young players have tough moments in their careers,” Tuchel said. “The point is to take care of them, guide them through them, push them, and trust what we do.”
