Threat to Haryana MLAs: CM Khattar asks special task force to probe the matter

Concerned over the increasing number of threat calls to Haryana MLAs, the state government has handed over the probe to the Special Task Force (STF). In the last two weeks, about half a dozen MLAs have received calls from gangsters and complaints have been lodged.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar called a high-level meeting of senior police officers on Wednesday in which Home Minister Anil Vij also attended. After a detailed discussion on the matter, the CM directed the officials to take immediate action and put the criminals behind the bars. He said that laxity will not be tolerated at any cost.

Khattar said that it is the duty of the police to ensure the safety of all the residents of the state. “There was no place for goons and criminals in Haryana,” he said.

Several legislators in the state have been receiving threatening calls allegedly from gangsters, some of whom are from outside India.

Official sources said that the threat calls following the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala are being taken seriously by the police and intelligence department. “Some of these calls seem more bogus, but we cannot take it lightly and therefore a thorough investigation has been initiated into all these complaints,” the officials said.

He said that the police have apprised the Chief Minister that investigation is underway and important information has been received and it will be resolved at the earliest. “The matter of threats being given to MLAs has already been handed over to a Special Task Force (STF),” the officials said.

Last week, five people were not present at the Pataudi house of Congress MLA from Badli, Kuldeep Vats, when he was not present there. He misbehaved with his cook and threatened to “cure the MLA like a Musewala”. Following the complaint of the cook, an FIR has been registered against five unidentified people. Earlier, Sohna MLA Sanjay Singh received extortion calls, while another Safidon MLA Subhash Gangoli lodged a complaint with the Haryana Police citing threat to his life. Earlier, Congress MLA from Sonipat Surendra Panwar had also received a threatening call from Dubai.
