The protesting leaders sat on a dharna and their supporters started raising slogans against the administration.

BJP workers in Kawardha also protested on Thursday in an attempt to arrest the police lathi-charge.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel was busy reaching UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri, where eight people, including four farmers, were killed when a communal flare-up allegedly broke out in a four-wheeler in Kawardha district, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra. .

On Sunday, two communities clashed over the removal of a religious flag at Lohara Chowk in Kawardha town. The clashes broke out after two communities claimed a place to put up their religious flags. To keep things under control, the administration had imposed section 144 of CrPC in the town and heavy police deployment was ensured in the town.

On Tuesday, a right-wing organization organized a protest march that turned violent after protesters moved into areas dominated by other communities. Bikes were set on fire, houses were vandalized and police personnel lathi-charged and later curfew was imposed in the town. A senior police officer said that several policemen were also injured in stone pelting.

Addressing the media in Raipur on Thursday, BJP leaders slammed the Baghel government, saying that for the first time in the history of the state, the saffron flag has been removed from any place. He claimed that traditionally the flag is removed before Navratri and a new one is put up at Kawardha. After the flag was raised, officials reached the spot and asked resident Durgesh Devangan to remove the flag. As soon as the mob came near Devangan and beat him up, he said, it created tension in the town.

Stating that both the communities filed FIRs against each other, BJP leaders claimed that the other community had fewer cases while the case was registered against people from the Hindu community who were not even there during the dispute. He claimed that the flag was raised there after two days.

The leaders demanded action against the local SP and the collector, saying they were to be blamed for the situation in the city. Saying that they would submit a memorandum to the governor on Friday, the BJP leaders demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter. He demanded that innocents be released and people from other communities who are roaming freely.

BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal accused the Baghel government of doing politics of appeasement and said that members of a particular community are encroaching on land and attacking others. He said the October 3 incident could have been avoided as the saffron flag is of Sanatan tradition and not of any political party.

As to why the administration did not act on the stone-pelters, which led to the October 5 incident, where thousands of people gathered to protest against Sunday’s incident, Agarwal claimed that the Chief Minister was busy appeasing the high command, the Home Minister missing. and the minister in charge was incommunicado. Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik claimed, “We tried to meet the families of the victims, but we were stopped at the Circuit House.”

The leaders urged the local people to maintain peace in Kawardha. Internet services have been suspended in Kabirdham district and two other adjoining districts, while 74 people have been arrested so far, a senior police officer said. IG Vivekananda Sinha said 70 miscreants have been identified and 59 arrested, adding that the protest on Tuesday was organized without permission and some people deliberately ransacked some identified wards of the city, leading to Law and order problem arose.

On the instructions of CM Bhupesh Baghel, DGP DM Awasthi and IG (Intelligence) Anand Chhabra reached the city on Tuesday night. IG Sinha and other senior IPS officers were also sent to the town after the incident. Collector Kabirdham Ramesh Kumar Sharma said, “The situation is tense but peaceful, we will decide on the curfew based on the situation.”

Bhupesh Baghel launches Ram Van Gaman Path project

Amid allegations of BJP’s politics of appeasement, CM Baghel on Thursday launched the Ram Van Gaman Path project, a development of a mythological path undertaken by Lord Ram during his stay in Chhattisgarh during 14 years of exile.

“Starting from Harchowk in Korea district, we have identified a total of 75 places which have evidence of Lord Ram’s visit and we are starting the development of nine from Chandkhuri with a budget of Rs 136.55 crore,” said Baghel. he said.

Chandkhuri is seen as the birthplace of Kaushalya, the mother of Lord Rama. “We consider Lord Ram as our bhampa (nephew) and the name Ram is evident in our culture and we share a special bond with him,” he said.

Stating that Ram is seen in different forms by different people, Baghel hit out at the BJP, saying some people see him as a ‘voter puller’ while we (Congress) see him as Mahatma Gandhi. K is seen as Rama, who, chanting his name, left for the heavenly abode. Baghel alleged that they (BJP) came to power in the name of Ram, but did nothing for Mata Kaushalya or Ram Van Gaman Path.
