TMC moves privilege motion against CBI, ED

It was introduced by Minister Tapas Roy for not taking the Speaker’s approval before filing the chargesheet in Narada case.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday moved a breach of privilege motion against the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the West Bengal Assembly.

It was introduced by Minister Tapas Roy for not taking the Speaker’s approval before filing the chargesheet in the Narada case.

Central probe agencies had filed a chargesheet against three members of the Legislative Assembly, Firhad Hakim, late Subrata Mukherjee and Madan Mitra.

On Tuesday, Speaker Biman Banerjee said that the ED and the CBI have shown disrespect, undermining the prestige of the House and the Speaker by not taking consent before filing the chargesheet. The motion has been referred to the Privileges Committee of the House.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said the TMC was scared of the probe being carried out by the ED and the CBI.

The agencies are probing the Saradha scam as well as the Narada sting video. While the CBI is also probing allegations of post-poll violence, central agencies are probing the coal theft case, where summons has been issued to TMC general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee.
