TMC skips opposition meeting called for vice-presidential election, keeps cards off as Mamata meets on July 21

The Trinamool Congress will not attend the opposition meeting called at the residence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday.

Though TMC leader Sudip Banerjee has reached Delhi to attend the all-party meeting today, he will not attend the meeting to be held at Pawar’s residence.

Party sources said that the TMC is very cautious in the Vice Presidential election. Since the TMC-led Bengal government and Jagdeep Dhankhar’s relationship is known for a long-standing conflict.

Experts said the TMC, in a way, wants to show again that the Congress is not the deciding factor in the opposition and since the governor is from Bengal, the party will reconsider this point as well.

Though relations between TMC and Dhankhar were not good, TMC’s stand on Dhankhar may be different, other experts said.

On the question of supporting the candidates in the elections, Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen said, ‘After 2 years our martyr rally will be physically, so we are very busy on that, our president has called a meeting on 21st July, he will announce there. “

TMC leader Chandrima Bhattacharya said, “He (Dhankar) has been awarded the post of vice-president. The opposition leader will now have less room to go.”

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress and CPI(M) have already started questioning the TMC. Adhir Choudhary said, “They are not serious about fighting the BJP, so they don’t attend meetings.”

CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said, “Now we understand why she met Dhankhar and Himanta in Darjeeling.”

Jagdeep Dhankhar, whose candidature as the NDA’s vice-president was announced on Saturday, has been in the news for his constant tussle with the Mamata Banerjee government since becoming the governor of West Bengal in July, 2019. Jagdeep Dhankhar, a lawyer by profession, entered politics in 1989 and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan in the same year and became a Union Minister in 1990.
