TMC to raise Adani-Hindenburg row, LIC, SBI issues in Parliament

As the budget session of Parliament resumes, the Trinamool Congress is all set to raise the Adani-Hindenburg issue again. Leader of the House, Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien said the party would also raise concerns such as risk exposure of LIC and SBI, rise in prices of essential commodities, unemployment and ‘misuse’ of central agencies during the second phase of the session.

O’Brien is quoted as saying, “We also want to wreak political vendetta against opposition-ruled states, including withholding funds to schemes such as MGNREGA and PMAY, which are vital to a large section of the vulnerable population. ”

Days after the arrest of AAP leader Manish Sisodia, several opposition leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged misuse of central investigative agencies. O’Brien said the TMC would raise the issue again during the session.

O’Brien said the floor strategy was decided by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and party’s all-India general secretary Abhishek Banerjee after a meeting which was also attended by him and Sudip Bandyopadhyay (TMC’s Lok Sabha floor leader). He also said that consultations would be held with other opposition parties before the commencement of the session.

The party plans to highlight the way LIC’s risk and price rise in the Adani group affects the lives of the common man. The TMC, the second largest opposition party in Parliament, has also re-increased its demand for the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill.

While the Congress has been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the allegations related to the Adani group, others like the Samajwadi Party, Left parties and DMK have registered their strong protest against the alleged attack on the federal structure and misuse of institutions.
