Regarding the sudden rains and whether there is any problem in providing weather forecast and whether the state government will submit a representation to the Center to replace the equipment at the IMD regional center here, he said it is the job of the central government.

When asked about the CM’s remarks, an IMD (Chennai) official told PTI that in view of several technical and practical difficulties, it is not always possible to provide 100 per cent error-free forecast.

The weather forecast by the IMD (issued at 12.30 pm on December 30) said: “Thundershowers with moderate rain at a few places very likely over Tamil Nadu Coasts. Moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places over Villupuram, Cuddalore and Delta districts, Puducherry and Karaikal. Light rain is also likely at isolated places over Interior Tamil Nadu districts. For the second consecutive day, in many areas, people are battling with floods and bad smell due to rain water getting mixed with sewage.

Traffic jams were also witnessed here and in several suburbs as the rains continued.
