To convert scientific words into mother tongue, AICTE ropes in Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) It has partnered with the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) to convert scientific and technical terms in Hindi and other Indian languages. Both the organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which is in line with AICTE’s objective of expanding engineering and technical education in Indian languages.

As a part of the MoU, both AICTE and CSTT define scientific and technical terms in Hindi and other modern Indian languages ​​for the purpose of teaching process, content creation in the form of textbooks, Faculty Development Program (FDP), skill and vocational education. will work towards Promotion of Indian knowledge system and localization of technology in Hindi and Indian languages.

AICTE will provide faculty training for teaching and learning in Indian languages. CSTT will provide scientific and technical terminology for various subjects included in the curriculum of programs conducted by AICTE in Hindi and other Indian languages. CSTT will also provide vocabulary training through workshops and seminars to facilitate the staff/teaching faculty of AICTE and its various branches/colleges.

“This will benefit lakhs of Indian students who want to study engineering in their Indian languages. Along with CSTT, AICTE will ensure that defined technical terms form part of the textbooks designed for technical education in various Indian languages. We believe this is a step towards inclusivity and will inspire many students in remote areas to take up technical education in their Indian language.”

The Council has already translated 218 engineering books into 11 Indian languages. AICTE has First hired 3,000 translators along with young interns Course material from English to regional languages. However, it was a challenge for them to find the equivalent word for technical terms. He also faced problems with formulas and tables.

“We face big problems in formulas and tables. But more importantly, it will take months to solve similar words for English words in different regional languages. For example, what is ‘analytics’ in your mother tongue?” Buddha Chandrasekhar, CCO, AICTE, had earlier told News18.com.
