Toll fee hike from today

The annual increase in toll charges on national highways in the state and Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road will be effective from April 1.

Barring the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway, the National Highways Authority of India has increased the duty at all 29 toll plazas across the state. As per the agreement with the toll handling contractor, the increased charges will be applicable on the Bengaluru highway from September.

On highways, there will be an increase of five to eight per cent of the current duty for cars and jeeps, 10-15% for light commercial vehicles, buses and trucks. In fact, the increase is from ₹5 to ₹50. Till then

TSRTC has passed the hike for passengers and has inbuilt it in its recent tariff revision. In such a situation, the share of toll in the fare has also been increased. The corporation sends one-time payments to the operators across its entire fleet. It had not revised its toll charges for the last four years. Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited has also increased toll charges on Hyderabad ORR by 3.5 to 5 percent. Road users will have to pay an additional fare of 7 paise to 53 paise per kilometer. Monthly pass charges will also increase on both the highway and ORR. Annuity payments to firms producing ORR will end in 2022-23. This will reduce the company’s dues from this year. The traffic volume on the ORR was estimated at 1.20 lakh to 1.30 lakh vehicles per day.

The increase in ORR will not be applicable to cars and light vehicles traveling less than 20 km. For those traveling more than 20 km, the increase was ₹10. There was no charge for cars, jeeps and light vehicles from Nanakramguda to Shamshabad. Toll charges increased on 18 inter-changes on ORR depending on the destinations.
