One of the most important components in a car is its engine. It’s what makes the wheels spin, it’s what allows the car to accelerate, and it’s what gives cars their distinctive sound.
It takes years for manufacturers to develop engines and they are very complex, it has to be reliable, efficient and have good performance.
This has caused automakers to collaborate with other companies to produce engines, share and split the cost, as well as house multiple engines, all the while going all out and borrowing existing engines from other automakers.
In this article, we will take you through the cars in India that share the same engine with other cars.
1. Bye Safari and MG Hector Plus (2.0-Multijet Diesel)
The first set of cars in the list was the Tata . Is Safari and MG Hector Plus. Both these cars use a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that is manufactured by Fiat. This engine produces 170 Bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque and Tata claims that they have modified the engine to suit the needs of the Safari.

Volkswagen and Skoda although different companies have a lot in common when it comes to their cars. After all, both the companies are part of the same automotive group.

The Volkswagen Vertus and the koda Slavia share the same engine, which is a choice of two petrol engines – a 1.5-litre TSI unit and a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine. The 1.0-litre TSI engine produces 115 bhp power and 178 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre TSI engine produces 147 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.
3. Kia Carens and Hyundai Alcazar (1.5 CRDi Diesel)
Not only do Kia Carens and Hyundai Alcazar share the same platform, but they also share the same CRDi diesel engine.

The 1.5 L CRDi diesel engine that powers the Alcazar is the same engine that powers the Carens as well. This engine generates power of 115 bhp and torque of 250 Nm.
4. Nissan Kicks and Mercedes Benz A-Class Limousine (1.3L HR13DDT Petrol)
It may be hard to believe but it is true. Codenamed HR13DDT, the 1.3 L turbocharged petrol engine is the same engine found on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine was co-developed with Mercedes-Benz and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

Kicks in this 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 158 Bhp and 254 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual or a CVT-type automatic. However, the engine in the Mercedes A-Class has been tuned to make 163 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.
5. Renault Triber and Renault Kwid (1.0L BR10DE Petrol)
An MPV with a smaller hatch and the same engine? Yes, another pair sharing the same engine is the Renault Kwid and the Renault Triber.

Under the bonnet, the Kwid and Triber are powered by the same 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. But one thing to note is that both the engines sit in different tunes. One of the Renault Kwid generates peak power of 67hp and maximum torque of 91Nm. And the Tiber with the same engine produces 71hp of maximum power and 96Nm of peak torque.
