Top 10 Most Popular Indian Movies 2022: As 2022 nears its end, here are the yearly lists of movies and web series. While this year’s South films managed to carve a niche for themselves with strong content and screenplays, Bollywood film The Kashmir Files dominated the headlines throughout the year. The film managed to strike a chord with the audience not only for its controversies but also by showing the brutal reality of the conditions faced by Kashmiri Pandits. IMDb on Wednesday released the list of top 10 popular Indian movies of 2022 and Ram Charan-Junior NTR starrer RRR has grabbed the first position. Anupam KherThe Kashmir Files and Yash’s KGF 2 came second and third.

RRR has been receiving accolades from all quarters and topping the IMDb list is another golden feather to its cap. The list is announced according to page views from IMDb users worldwide. See which other Indian films made it to the top 10.

Top 10 Most Popular Indian Movies of 2022

RRR (Rise Roar Rebellion)

Directed by SS Rajamouli, RRR starring Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgan. It received two nominations under the Best Foreign Film category and Best Original Song category (Naatu Naatu) at the recent Golden Globe Awards. Released theatrically in March, “RRR” earned over Rs 1,200 crore at the global box office. The Hindi version of the film premiered on Netflix on 20 May and soon became the most popular film from India on streamers worldwide.

The Kashmir Files

After the release of ‘The Kashmir Files’, it became a topic of discussion across the country. Starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi and Chinmay Mandlekar, the film depicts the heartbreaking exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film revived the box office with collections of over Rs 252 crore in India and around Rs 340 crore worldwide.

KGF: Chapter 2

A sequel to the 2018 film KGF: Chapter 1, KGF: Chapter 2 follows Rocky whose name now strikes fear in the blood-soaked Kolar Gold Fields. While his allies look up to him, the government sees him as a threat to law and order. Rocky must fight threats from all sides for undisputed supremacy. He is a hero and savior to the people of Narchi. In his attempt to fulfill his promise to his mother, he faces many obstacles in the form of Adheera, Inayat Khalil and Rumika Sen.

KGF 2 IMDB Rating: 8.4/10

Vikram

In the film Vikram, Haasan plays Arun Kumar, an agent working for India’s external intelligence agency RAW. He is cruel at times and shows no mercy towards criminals. Tamil superstar Vijay Sethupathi plays an antagonist in the film and Malayalam star Fahadh Fazil also plays a major role in the film.

Kantara

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara garnered huge popularity within days of its release and set the box office on fire. It stars Rishab Shetty, Saptami Gowda and Kishore Kumar in lead roles. Rumor has it that Shetty is all set to start work on the sequel of the film as well.

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect

Released theatrically on July 1, R. Madhavan starrer Rocketry: The Nambi Effect opened to acclaim from critics as well as the audience. Directed, produced and written by the 52-year-old actor, the biographical drama is based on the life of aerospace engineer Nambi Narayanan. Madhavan also plays the lead role in the film. The film is available to watch online on Prime Video in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam; and in Hindi and Tamil on Voot Select.

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect IMDb Rating: 8.8/10

Major is directed by Shashi Kiran Tikka and stars Adivasi Shesh, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Revathi and Murli Sharma in lead roles. The film is a biographical drama about the inspirational journey of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. It was a box office success and received a good response on OTT after its premiere on Netflix.

seetha ramam

Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur starrer Sita Ramam first released in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam and later released in Hindi as well. Helmed by Hanu Raghavapudi, Seetha Ramam, also featuring Rashmika Mandanna, reflects the fact that humanity matters more than war, borders and religion. Set in 1964, the film tells the story of Lt. Ram, an orphaned army officer serving on the Kashmir border, who receives anonymous love letters from Sita Mahalakshmi. Ram is on a mission to find Sita and confess his love.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part One

Aishwarya Rai Bachchans film, Ponniyin Selvan 1 gained huge popularity among the audience. The film also stars Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar and Parthiban in pivotal roles. The magnum opus historical drama based on the eponymous novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, takes place in 10th century Thanjavur.

777 Charlie, directed by Kiranraj K, stars Rakshit Shetty as Charlie, a Labrador retriever, in the title role. The film stars Sangeeta Sringeri, Raj B. Shetty, Danish Sait and Bobby Simha are also there. The film is an adventure comedy-drama film that follows Dharma (Rakshit Shetty) who is stuck with his negative and lonely lifestyle, spending each day in the comfort of his solitude. A mischievous and energetic puppy named Charlie enters her life and gives her a new perspective.
