Trade Setup for August 17th 2022: Things to Know Before the Opening Bell of the Stock Market

Trade setup for Wednesday: Equaling the longest win so far in 2022, the Indian stock market on Tuesday closed in positive territory for the sixth consecutive session. NSE Nifty closed 127 points north and closed at 17,825 level while BSE Sensex closed 379 points and 59,842 level. The Nifty Bank index closed 197 points higher at 39,239. Among sectors, realty, power, oil & gas and auto indices were the biggest gainers, while metals and telecom indices declined. Mid-cap and small-cap indices rose 1.03 per cent, outperforming Nifty and the forward decline ratio was positive at 1.50:1.

“The immediate support for Nifty has now increased to 17,720, followed by 17,600, while resistance is seen near 17,870 and 18,000,” said Ruchi Jain, Lead Research, 5paisa.com.

“Bank Nifty ended with a small Doji candle on the daily chart and around its previous swing high resistance. So although there is no confirmation of a reversal yet, one should reduce long position volume and buy excessively high Let’s take some money off the table as a reading around the resistance zone could lead to some profit-booking in the near future,” said Ruchit Jain of 5paisa.com.

Mehul Kothari, AVP of Technical Research at Anand Rathi said, “Immediate support for Nifty Bank is placed at 38,700 to 38,600 level, while immediate support for the index is at 39,500 to 39,600 level.”

Major call open interest additions were seen at 18000 and 18100 strikes which included 46954 and 40849 contracts respectively. Call unwinding was seen at the 17600 and 17700 strikes, which saw 10667 and 37413 contracts drop respectively.

Major put open interest additions were seen at the 17600, 17700 and 17800 strikes, which included 28526, 71350 and 89976 contracts respectively. The strikes from 17500 to 18100 saw no major put unwinding.

Call unwinding was witnessed at 39000 strike which shed 19962 contracts.

Major put open interest additions were seen at the 39200 and 38700 strikes, which included 45901 and 17871 contracts respectively. The strikes from 38700 to 39700 saw no major put unwinding.
