Traditional prasad recipes you must try this Ganesh Chaturthi – Times of India

Ganesh Chaturthi is here, and of course amidst the excitement and excitement of bringing home Lord Ganesha, you haven’t forgotten about the most important thing- Bhog Prasad!

Ganesh Chaturthi, which is celebrated for a period of 10 days, begins on the fourth day of the Hindu lunar calendar month Bhadrapada. It will start from September 10 this year and will end on September 21.

We all know that Bappa is very fond of delicious sweets, and devotees prepare various delicious dishes to please him.

The dishes prepared during this 10-day long festival vary from region to region. Here are some bhog recipes to offer to the benevolent god.

1. Modak: There is a reason why Lord Ganapati is also called ‘Modakpriya’. According to Hindu belief, Modak- a sweet dumpling made of flour, jaggery and coconut, is one of the favorite dishes of Lord Ganesha. Devotees prepare a variety of modaks including chocolate, saffron, cashew, motichoor and khoya modaks to offer as bhog to the elephant-headed god.

2. Puran Poli: This scrumptious delicacy is enough to satisfy your taste buds! Puran Poli is one of the major bhog offered to Bappa during Ganesh Chaturthi. It is a sweet flattened roti made with chana dal with a stuffing of jaggery, coconut, cardamom, and butter or ghee.

3. Shrikhand: Solve your hunger pangs in the most delectable way with this sweet dish prepared from lactic fermented curd and crushed dry fruits. The dish is usually prepared with saffron and cardamom flavors and served with almonds, cashews, raisins, pistachios and other dry fruits.

4. Motichoor Ladoo: Just a glimpse of this soft orange colored delicacy can be extremely soothing to the eyes and soul. We all know how much Bappa loves laddus as we always see him holding a laddu in his hand! Motichoor laddus are mainly prepared from gram flour, sugar and spices. The batter made from gram flour is first fried to form small balls or ‘boondi’ and mixed with sugar syrup, nuts or seeds and later shaped into balls.

5. Gujiya: Also known as Karanji, the taste of this delicious dish is enough to satisfy the taste of sweet eaters. Served hot, these are deep-fried dumplings prepared with maida, or semolina, mixed with dry fruits, crushed dry fruits, jaggery and khoya.

Lord Ganesha really loves sweets but most precious to him are his devotees, who welcome him with love and enthusiasm to worship him on special occasions.
