Trains delayed due to waterlogging in Ernakulam, re-routed

More than a dozen trains through Ernakulam were partially cancelled, diverted or stopped due to waterlogging in the tracks after the signal system was affected at Ernakulam Junction and Ernakulam Town railway stations.

The Ernakulam Junction station and the track from Ernakulam Town to D-Cabin on the Thripunithura route remained submerged at 3.30 pm even after the rain stopped. This resulted in the shutdown of signal systems and trains being regulated manually, leading to delays. Railway sources said, “Efforts are on to restore normalcy as further delay will have a huge impact on train services even on Wednesday.”

The route of some trains was changed. Thus, the 16650 Nagercoil-Mangaluru Parasuram Express operated on the Thripunithura-Ernakulam Junction-Ernakulam Town route, while the 12081 Kannur-Thiruvananthapuram Jan Shatabdi Express operated via Kottayam.

Train number 12618 Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express terminated service at Ernakulam Town instead of Ernakulam Junction, while 06768 Kollam-Ernakulam MEMU train terminated service at Mulanthuruthy, a release said.

Similarly, 16308 Kannur-Alappuzha executive terminated service at Edappally and return train 16307 back to Kannur at Edappally started operations. Train 06769 Ernakulam – Kollam MEMU started service from Thripunithura instead of Ernakulam Junction. Train 06443 Ernakulam – Kollam MEMU Special started service from Mulanthuruthy.

06451 Ernakulam – Kayamkulam Unreserved Express was canceled while train 12677 KSR Bengaluru – Ernakulam Intercity Express terminated service at Aluva.
