Digital meters were installed in 1,994 vehicles during the last two weeks. So far, 7,726 taxis have digital meters, the Transport Directorate has submitted to the High Court.

The Directorate of Transport submitted the updates in a status report to the High Court which is monitoring the implementation of taxi meters in the state. Last month, the Directorate of Transport passed an order directing that all Goa Tourist Vehicle Permits without Tourist Vehicle Permit/vehicles without digital fare meter be “immediately cancelled”.
The High Court is monitoring the installation of digital fare meters in taxis after Goa’s Travel and Tourism Association and other tourism stakeholders filed its second contempt petition in two years for not installing digital meters in taxis.
There are about 20,000 taxis registered in the state, of which about 16,000 are operational.
The government had earlier set October 31 as the deadline for series-wise fitting of digital meters, after which pending taxi operators were given time till November-end to complete the installation.
