Designer Gaurang Shah’s new Hyderabad restaurant celebrates the spontaneity of Indian home cuisine with a vegetarian thali

Gaurang’s Kitchen is the flavor of summer in Hyderabad this year. Known for their remarkable work with Indian textiles and traditional weaving, the designers are bringing something new to the table. In all, it also has a mission: Gaurang’s Kitchen is focused on exploring and celebrating traditional Indian flavours.

In the open indigo verandah, the loose khadi yard in indigo flutters softly in the wind as Gaurang watches the preparations for the day with an impressive eye in detail; Checking table reservations, chatting with staff, replacing some of the potted plants in the foyer with hydrangeas that are in bloom, then dusting off the foot mats before putting them back.

On entering the spacious bungalow with Gaurang’s kitchen, it is as if I am walking into someone’s house. The spacious restaurant, which can seat up to 300 guests, opens with a minimalist, lively open space alongside the traditional meeting

One cannot miss the signature style of the designer though the place looks simple. All colors are from fabric, either elegantly hung or crafted to showcase the grandeur of Indian textiles. The walls are decorated with old Banaras, Kanjeevaram yardages.

Gaurang explains, “Neel is the courtyard, while the narrative is the house. The spaces are infused with cooling indigo and hot nuts to create a serene atmosphere. We aim to awaken your senses through melodious music, soothing textures and delicious food .

Known for his love of feeding people, Gaurang brings with him favorite treats from different regions like Badam Bistic from Hyderabad, Rasgullas and Sandesh from Kolkata and so on, even on his fashion week tours. .
