Tripura BJP MLAs Sudip Roy Burman, Ashish Saha resign

Sudip Roy Burman and Ashish Saha met Speaker Ratan Chakraborty and submitted their resignations

BJP MLAs Sudip Roy Burman and Ashish Saha resigned from the Tripura Legislative Assembly on 7 February and also gave up their party membership.

Mr. Burman and Mr. Saha met Chairman Ratan Chakraborty and submitted their resignation letters.

Mr Burman told reporters that he would travel to New Delhi later in the day and finalize the future course of action amid speculation he would join the Congress on February 8.

Mr. Saha said, “We will return to Tripura on February 12. We have also resigned from the primary membership of the party by sending a letter to BJP state president Manik Saha.”

With the resignation of two MLAs in the 60-member assembly, the BJP’s tally rose to 33.
