Tripura Elections 2023: Voting on all 60 seats today, triangular contest on cards

Tripura Assembly Election 2023: Voting will be held on all the 60 assembly seats of Tripura today. The state is witnessing a triangular fight between BJP, Congress-Left alliance and regional party Tipra Motha.

Polling will be held from 7 am to 4 pm. A total of 3,337 polling stations have been set up across the state, of which 1,100 have been identified as critical while 28 are critical. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.

A total of 28.13 lakh voters, including 13.53 lakh women, will decide the fate of 259 candidates.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinkaro said that all preparations have been completed to conduct free and fair elections.

31,000 polling personnel and 25,000 security personnel of central forces are ready to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Besides this, 31,000 personnel of State Armed Police and State Police will be deployed to maintain law and order,” the CEO said.

The BJP is contesting on 55 seats, while its ally IPFT has fielded candidates on 6 seats. There will be a friendly contest between the two parties on one seat. BJP has fielded the maximum number of 12 women candidates.

The CPI(M) is contesting on 47 seats, alliance partner Congress on 13 seats and regional party seats.

Mamta Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress has also fielded its candidates on 28 seats while there are 58 independent candidates.
