Tripura’s TIPRA Motha will contest from Manik Sarkar’s Dhanpur seat in 2023 for ‘Greater Tipraland’

Tripura’s Swadeshi Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha chief and royal Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarman has announced that his party will contest from Dhanpur constituency for the 2023 assembly elections in the fight for Greater Tipraland.

“Tipra will fight from Motha Dhanpur. For centuries a swadeshi party has not fought for Dhanpur, they have only aligned with BJP or Congress. Dhanpur has high population of Tiprasas. If we need to fight for a greater Tipraland, we should not leave a single constituency where Tripura is in majority. I have already said that we will fight Matabari. Dhanpur is a reputed constituency, Manik Babu has represented this constituency and Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik has also contested from here.

Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarman after a party program said, “If we have Tiprasa MLAs from these areas then only Tiprasa land can progress.”

Dhanpur is one of the 60 assembly constituencies of Tripura. It is in Sipahijala district and is a part of the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar won the Dhanpur constituency in 2018 with more than 50% vote share defeating his Congress rival.

Bhowmik, Union Minister of State for Social Empowerment and Justice, contested the assembly elections from Dhanpur constituency in 1998 and 2018 and lost both the times. He later contested from West Tripura Lok Sabha seat in 2019 defeating sitting MP Shankar Prasad Dutta by a margin of 3,05,689 votes.

Bhowmik recently alleged that TIPRA Motha was trying to mislead people with their statehood demand.

Debbarman, however, said the demand for the state is constitutional and those who accuse him of doing caste politics are actually campaigning.

Debbarman appealed to the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and Left leaders to join Tipra Motha. Debbarman urged the tribal leaders not to think about their own position but about the interests of Tiprasa.

The tribal politics of Tripura has been witnessing continuous upheaval for the past few weeks. These include the BJP’s claim that it is confident of winning more than 50 seats in the 2023 assembly elections alone.

TIPRA Motha’s demand for Greater Tipraland seeks to include every tribal person in the proposed state, including those living outside the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council areas, as well as in other states such as Assam and Mizoram and the border areas of Tiprasa or Tripuri. to provide assistance. of Bangladesh through a Development Council.
