We all are so obsessed with our local street food that sometimes it reaches the limits of authority. For North Indians, Gol Gappa will always be Gol Gappa, never Pani Puri. And the feeling is the same in Mumbai. There is always a cultural tussle between Delhi and Mumbai, especially for food. Adding fuel to the fire, a Twitter post sparked yet another foodie debate – that of Chole Tikki and Ragi Patties. The user asked, “I will never understand why Tikki Chole is called Ragda Pattice in Mumbai. It doesn’t make any sense.” Needless to say, several other Twitter users jumped into the pit of battle to voice their opinion.

Chole tikki is a popular street food in northern India, especially in Delhi and Punjab. Fried crispy tikkis are topped with cooked chickpeas along with chopped onions, chutney and other essential chaats. Ragda Pattis is one such dish which is found in the streets of Mumbai. While the user who put up the Twitter post feels that the two dishes are almost identical and don’t need to be called by different names, other users don’t seem to agree.

As per most of the comments, chole tikki and ragda patis may sound similar but they are definitely not the same. Some users pointed out that Chole Tikki contains chickpeas (which are white chickpeas), and Ragda Pattis contains small white peas (called matar).
Some people also told the difference between Tikki and Ragda. While tikki is a deep fried potato cutlet, in ragda patties the patties are coated with rava and shallow fried. Watch all the comments that heated up the raging debate:
