‘Twitter rules will evolve…’: Musk issues new guidelines, but with a rider

“Our rules are in place to ensure that everyone can freely and safely participate in public conversations,” the new guidelines say. Elon Musk, ‘free speech advocate’ facing huge backlash for firing ‘almost 50%’ globally. Twitter is charging employees and $8 per month to maintain a verified account.

Musk also mentioned in his statement that the rules change from time to time, keeping in mind the need to ‘maintain a healthy space for public interaction’.

The rules issued on Monday seem to be largely similar to the rules already in place, albeit with a few additions. Additions include ‘misleading and deceptive identification’, which falls under ‘Authenticity’ section.

The guidelines are divided into five sections – Security, Privacy, Authenticity, Enforcement and Appeal, and Third-Party Advertising in Video Content.

The Tesla CEO, who acquired the company in October in a deal worth $44 billion, began his ownership just last week.

Security

violence: Users are prohibited from making threats of violence against any individual or group of people. Twitter has also said that they prohibit glorification of violence.

Terrorism / Violent Extremism: Users are asked not to threaten or promote terrorism or violent extremism. learn more.
