Twitter Users Are Heading To Mastodon After Elon Musk’s Acquisition, Here’s Why

Elon Musk’s takeover on Twitter has thrown the platform into a bit of chaos. As the billionaire laid off massive layoffs, furloughing nearly 50 percent of Twitter’s employees, people using the platform became concerned about the future of the ecosystem there. There are also growing concerns about security and misinformation. Musk’s decision to give a blue tick for $8 also did not go down well with many users. In such a situation, many Twitter users are considering leaving the platform.

Many users looking for an alternative to Twitter are considering turning to Mastodon.

“In just the last week the number of people switching to #Mastodon has exceeded 230 thousand, with many returning to old accounts bumping the network to over 655 thousand active users, the highest ever Is!” A Twitter post from Mastodon said it recently.

Mastodon’s operating principles are pretty much the same as Twitter’s (you have tricks in there instead of tweets). When it comes to differences, Mastodon is decentralized and open source. According to a tweet by Mastodon, “…it can’t be sold and it won’t go bankrupt. It respects your privacy and gives people control over the network. It’s a product on top of a protocol, just like From Twitter, it should have been.” On Mastodon, you can connect to the server of your choice.

While the discussion on leaving Twitter is still developing, people are considering platforms other than Mastodon, with some even opining that they found Mastodon’s interface confusing.
