Twitter will soon remove all legacy ‘blue badges’: Elon Musk

New Delhi: After launching Twitter Blue with verification service in India that starts at Rs 650 per month, Elon Musk has reiterated that all legacy blue badges will be removed soon. Musk has repeatedly said that the company will ditch all blue checks as it looks to monetize its platform by charging users. He reiterated in a tweet, “Legacy blue checks will be removed soon. These are the ones that are really corrupt.”

Earlier this month, Twitter’s CEO said that all legacy verified accounts will soon lose their blue badges because they are “deeply corrupt”. He had said, “Twitter’s legacy Blue Verified is unfortunately deeply corrupt, so will end in a few months.”

Meanwhile, the micro-blogging platform will charge Rs 650 per month for its Blue service with verification on web and Rs 900 on Android and iOS mobile devices in India. Musk-run Twitter is also offering a discounted annual plan of Rs 6,800 per year in India, which roughly translates to Rs 566.67 per month. With the launch in India, Twitter Blue is now available in 15 global markets including US, Canada, Japan, UK and Saudi Arabia.

Twitter has also started allowing Blue subscribers in the US to create tweets up to 4,000 characters long. Twitter Blue subscribers will also see 50 percent fewer ads in their home timeline. Meanwhile, Twitter has asked businesses to pay $1,000 per month to maintain the gold badge and brands and organizations that do not pay the money will lose their checkmarks.
