CHENNAI: Chennai city police on Wednesday arrested two persons, including a woman, for kidnapping a Class X girl for ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh, but later settled for Rs 2 lakh. They dropped the girl near a hospital in Vadapalani around 4.30 pm when they got Rs 2 lakh. The girl was saved by her family members and the police.
Later, a team led by Nungambakkam Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Abiram nabbed the kidnappers, identified as Moshina Parveen. ejaz ahmed,
Police said Moshina Parveen had devised a plan to kidnap His niece’s daughter Asifa, who is studying in Crescent Matriculation School, Nungambakkam.
Parveen told the police that he kidnapped the girl because she was in dire need of Rs 5 lakh to settle the money she had borrowed from a jeweller.
Aijaz Ahmed, 52, who runs a hardware shop in Kodambakkam, was hired to help him. The woman had gone to school by autorickshaw. The girl was waiting for her van to return home. Parveen tells Asifa that she and her mother are childhood friends and promises to drop her home.
Believing his words, Asifa boarded the autorickshaw. Parveen took her to Ampa Skywalk in Choolaimedu.
During this, the van driver looked for Asifa. She told the headmistress of the school that the girl was missing. The school management informed his parents.
Till then Asifa’s father mohammed mirani Lebbai received a ransom call from one mobile phone and the woman speaking on the other hand demanded Rs 10 lakh for her daughter’s safe release. He asked her to call back after half an hour and then disconnected the call.
After this, Mohammad Meeran Lebai lodged a complaint with the Police Commissioner’s office. His complaint was sent to Nungambakkam Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Abiram.
Parveen is a homemaker while her husband Mohd. Javed runs a fast-food eatery in Royapettah. They live in a rented house. Ejaz Ahmed runs a tool hardware shop in Kodambakkam. Police said that Asifa’s elder brother used to work at his shop.
