“Typical Congressman”: Anil Antony On Twitter “Unfollow” Call

Anil Antony, son of veteran Congress leader AK Antony, joined the BJP last week.

New Delhi:

Former Kerala Congress leader Anil Antony, who joined the BJP last week, today took a jibe at a Congress leader for asking party leaders and workers to unfollow him on Twitter. One of the reasons for the downfall of the Kerala unit of the Congress is that it is “cut off from realities”, said Mr Antony, who is the son of veteran Congress leader AK Antony.

Mr Antony said people are on Twitter to form informed opinions based on the views and information shared by people on the social media platform.

“People are generally on Twitter to follow ideas – across the spectrum, to get some ideas and information on what different people think. It can help form informed opinions. When you differ -unfollow everyone with different views and keep listening to everyone with similar views -cut off from realities will make a wonderful echo chamber -one of the main reasons @INCKerala is where it is right now,” he said.

Mr Antony made the remarks while replying to a tweet by T Siddiqui, the working president of the Congress in Kerala, asking party members to unfollow the former for allegedly joining the rival BJP.

Anil Antony, who has been associated with various social initiatives and digital campaigns of the Congress, joined the BJP last week saying that he was impressed by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Antony quit the Congress in January following a controversy over the 2002 Gujarat riots and a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Every Congress worker believes they are working for a family. But I believe I am working for the country,” Anil Antony told reporters today. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a very clear vision to bring India to a leading position in a multi-polar world.”

His father and former Defense Minister AK Antony expressed his displeasure and disappointment over his decision, calling it a “wrong decision” and a “very painful” moment for him.
