Born to truck driver Mahabala Pujari and housewife Paddu Pujari, Sri Gururaja, along with eight siblings, had a rough start in life. His interest surfaced at a very early stage when he was studying at the Government Primary School in Vandase, where his talent was encouraged. Life was not easy for Sri Gururaja as he could get little financial support from the family where his father was struggling to survive. Mr. Gururaja used whatever prize money he received on his training and diet.

Although he tried to join the army, his height (156 cm) came in the way. However, he was selected as an aircraftman with the Indian Air Force, which improved his position. After that his house is much better, and now Mr. Gururaja intends to build a huge house in the village.
