Udupi ZP giving free competitive exam training for Govt. PU science students

Using the smart classes set up in government pre-university colleges, the Udupi district panchayat has started providing free training to 1,094 students of the second year of pre-university science in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, Joint Entrance Examination, and Common Is. entrance examinations.

“Students from different parts of the state take admission in private pre-university colleges in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts only to get training to appear for competitive exams. I didn’t want the students of government PU colleges, who come from poor family background, to be deprived of training. So we started this,” said H. Prasanna, chief executive officer of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat.

Apart from a good number of science lecturers from government colleges, lecturers from Manipal Institute of Technology have been involved in the training. Resource personnel come to the small studio set up in the District Panchayat Resource Center from where the classes are conducted.

Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday between 3 pm to 4.30 pm. Classes run on Saturdays from 1 PM to 3 PM

Students from 20 PU colleges in rural areas and six in urban areas of the district attend the lectures, which are in interactive form on smart class set up. The last 15 minutes of each lecture is used by the students to ask questions to the resource personnel.

“A set consisting of an interactive TV, a web camera, an all-in-one desktop and an external speaker, costing Rs 2.5 lakh, was installed in each of the PU colleges using the panchayat’s funds earmarked for education Is. Mr. Prasanna said.

Zilla Parishad CEO said that after the second PU examination, the district administration has planned to speed up the training.
