Ugadi marks the start of a new year in accordance with the Hindu lunar calendar. It falls on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, which is the first day of the Chaitra month in the Hindu calendar. This year, Ugadi will be celebrated on April 9, Tuesday. Usually, the date for Ugadi falls between late March and early April. The name Ugadi is derived from Sanskrit words ‘Yuga’ (age) and ‘Adi’ (beginning). It is celebrated with much enthusiasm in southern states – Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
