UGC chief urges central universities to adopt CUET-PG from next academic session

University Grants Commission (UGC) chief M Jagadesh Kumar has urged all central universities to adopt the Common University Entrance Test Postgraduate (CUET-PG) from the coming academic session. CUET-PG will be conducted from June 1-10 for admission to the academic year 2023-24.

Talking about the CUET exam, Kumar said, “As you are aware, CUET provides a level playing field and equal opportunity to the candidates across the country, especially the candidates from North-East, rural and other remote areas And helps candidates establish better relationships with the universities. A single exam enables candidates to cover a wider reach and be part of the admission process in various central and participating universities.”

“The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting CUET-UG and PG. All the Central Universities should join CUET-PG, as they have done for CUET-UG, it will be accessible to students across India. To be among the best universities in India. Therefore, I urge all Central Universities to use CUET-PG scores for admission to PG programmes.”

Unlike CUET-UG exam, PG exam is not necessary for admission in Central Universities.

NTA has announced the calendar for all major entrance exams for 2023. CUET-UG will be conducted from May 21 to May 31, 2023. Whereas the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) will be conducted from January 24 to 31 and the second phase will be conducted. Between 6th April to 12th April. National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for medical courses will be held on May 7.

The inaugural edition of CUET-UG was conducted in 2022, in which over 14 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. The UGC had made it mandatory for all Central Universities to admit students to undergraduate courses through CUET. As a result, almost all the Central Universities have accepted CUET either fully or partially from the 2022-23 academic session.
