UGC directs colleges to participate in workshop on new fellowship management portal

For Direct Benefit Transfer payments, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is disbursing fellowship and scholarship amounts through a bank portal integrated with the Public Financial Management System. As per the official announcement, Canara Bank has created Scholarship and Fellowship Management Portal (SFMP) for disbursement of funds. The Commission has decided to organize a training session/workshop in virtual mode from 14th November to 18th November for the nodal officers working on the portal.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) recently announced transfer of three National Fellowship Schemes to the designated ministries. The National Fellowship for SC and OBC has now been transferred to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. In addition, the Maulana Azad National Fellowship is transferred to the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

National Fellowship for SC (NFSC) is available to SC candidates pursuing higher education in science, humanities, social sciences, engineering and technology. There are 2000 slots available for all the subjects in this scholarship. Similarly, the National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes is open to candidates belonging to the OBC category and who are pursuing higher education. Every year, 300 fellowship slots are available across all disciplines.

Meanwhile, the Maulana Azad National Fellowship provides financial assistance to students from six minority communities which include Buddhists, Christians, Jains, Muslims, Parsis and Sikhs.
