UGC NET: Over 12.67 lakh to appear for exams by December 2020, June 2021 combined attempts

NS UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) The December 2020 and June 2021 sessions have been merged and the exam is being conducted after a period of 17 months. Around 12.67 lakh candidates have registered for the examinations that began on November 20. UGC NET is being conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode after 17 months at 469 designated centers in 213 cities. UGC NET will conclude on 5th December.

The previous exam was conducted in June 2020, and the long gap is a result of the gradual lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 52,335 candidates appeared in the exam held on November 20 at 338 centers in 177 cities. 48 percent female candidates appeared in the first day’s exam, while four third gender candidates took the exam.

The exam was conducted in two shifts of three hours each for 36 subjects. 13,975 students appeared for 19 subjects in the first shift, while 38,360 appeared in the second shift for the remaining 17 subjects.

To ensure fair and smooth conduct of the examination, the officials had installed 1783 jammers and 8142 CCTV cameras at all the centers on the first day of the test. The National and Regional Coordinators appointed by the NTA virtually oversee the entire examination to avoid any malpractices. Whereas the exam was successfully conducted on the first day at all the exam centers except one center in Assam, which has been rescheduled for November 28 due to technical reasons.

UGC NET is being conducted for 81 test papers to provide eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship and/or Assistant Professorship.

The subjects of the first day’s examination were Adult Education, Continuing Education, Andragosy, Informal Education, Arab Culture, and Islamic Studies, Arabic, Archaeological, Buddhist, Jain, Gandhian and Peace Studies, Chinese, Comparative Literature, and Comparative Study of Religions. ,

Other subjects included Criminology, Defense and Strategic Studies, Folk Literature, Forensic Science, French (French Edition), Human Rights and Duty, Indian Culture, Linguistics, Mass Communication and Journalism, Museums and Conservation, Nepali, Pali, Persian, Philosophy Huh. Tourism Administration and Management, and Tribal and Religion Language/Literature.
