UGC writes letter to educational institutions to promote scientific use of Ayurveda

The University Grants Commission has directed its affiliated Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to promote the scientific use of Ayurveda as part of the Ayurveda Day celebrations this year.

Every year on 23 October Ayurveda Day is celebrated since 2016. The purpose of this day is to promote Ayurveda and its effective method in the treatment of various diseases. This year the day will be celebrated on 23rd October with the theme of ‘Har Din, Har Ghar Ayurveda’ (Ayurveda Everyday, Ayurveda Everywhere).

The UGC directed the HEI to promote Ayurveda by creating ‘Jan Sandesh, Jan Bhagidari and Jan Andolan’ for the public health of the people through various organizing activities for the occasion.

Ministry of AYUSH has planned several programs to celebrate the occasion from September 12 to October 23, 2022 under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonaval, while addressing the curtain raiser for the programs of Ayurveda Day last month, said, the six-week program is a noble attempt to take forward the vision of the Prime Minister. The first event, organized as part of Ayurveda Day celebrations, Ayurveda for Holistic Health, ran from September 12 to September 18. From September 19 to September 25, ‘Ayurveda for Millennials’ took place. This was followed by the ‘Ayurveda Aahar’ (cereal, millet/niyama) program, which ran from 26 September to 2 October. After that ‘Ayurveda for Senior Citizens’ was organized from 3rd October to 9th October.

The Ayurveda for Mental Wellbeing event is currently underway and will end on 16 October. Eventually, the chain of events will end with ‘Ayurveda – Experience Sharing’ on 23rd October, which is scheduled to start from 17th October.
