British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will announce a new “partnership” with India at the G20 summit in Bali on Wednesday, Downing Street has announced. Under the UK-India Young Professionals scheme, the UK will annually offer up to 3,000 degree-holding Indians in the age group of 18-30 years to work in the UK for two years. The scheme will start in early 2023 and will be on a reciprocal basis.

“I know firsthand the incredible value of our deep cultural and historical links with India,” Mr. Sunak said in a statement. “I am delighted that more of India’s brightest young people will now have the opportunity to experience life in the UK, and vice versa – making our economies and societies richer,” he said.

Mr. Sunak had talked about reciprocating with India over the summer during his campaign to become prime minister.
