UK cuts 47 countries from ‘red list’ of Kovid travel

The UK government on Thursday announced a dramatic reduction in its coronavirus travel “red list”, banning foreigners traveling to England from 47 countries.

Under the new rules, which will go into effect from 0300 GMT on Monday 11 October, only seven countries – Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru and Venezuela – will remain subject to sanctions.

Removal from the “red list” for 47 countries and territories, including Brazil, Mexico and South Africa, means travelers will no longer need to enter hotel quarantine.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the move was made possible because of “increased vaccination efforts around the world”.

The government also announced that it was expanding inbound vaccination to another 37 countries and territories, including India and Turkey.

The new rules mean that fully vaccinated individuals entering England from 37 locations will be exempt from quarantine, a pre-departure test and a day-eight post-test.

British and Irish nationals and those living in the UK are allowed to travel from Red List countries but must quarantine in a hotel for 10 days upon arrival.

In London the UK government sets health and transport policy for England only. Developed parliaments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland set COVID travel policies for their regions.

He has largely followed the previous rule changes for England.
