The UK government on Wednesday reported 106,122 new virus cases in the past 24 hours, the first time the daily figure has topped 100,000, as the Omicron version spreads rapidly.
Britain is the worst-hit by the virus in Europe, with 147,573 deaths and more than 11 million positive cases since the pandemic began. The government is urging the public to get a third vaccine jab and has received over 30 million boosters so far.
