Ukraine praised the arrival of Western air defense systems in the midst of the war

Ukraine received the first Iris-T defense system from Germany last month.

Kyiv:

Ukraine announced on Monday that it has received more air defense systems from Western military allies, saying the weapons would help defend against Russian attacks that have recently targeted energy infrastructure.

Defense Minister Oleksey Reznikov said on social media: “NASAMS and ASPID air defense systems arrived in Ukraine! These weapons will greatly strengthen the Ukrainian military and make our skies safe.”

“We will continue to shoot down enemy positions that are attacking us. Thank you to our allies – Norway, Spain and the US,” Reznikov said.

Russian attacks have destroyed nearly a third of Ukraine’s power stations in the past month, and the government has urged Ukrainians to save as much electricity as possible.

Authorities in Kyiv said on Monday that the situation around the city’s ability to supply energy to residents remains “tense” and urged Ukrainians in the capital to limit electricity use during peak hours.

“We call on all residents of the region to support energy workers in their struggle on the energy front,” it said on the social media platform Telegram.

Reznikov said last month that Ukraine had received the first Iris-T defense system from Germany.
