Ukraine’s Zelensky Says “2023 Year of Victory” in War Anniversary Message

Zelensky is receiving support from around the world in his country’s war against Russia.

As the world marked the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a message of defiance against Russia, saying “2023 will be the year of our victory”.

In a short video, the 45-year-old shared moments from the years-old war, saying that despite pain and suffering, his countrymen are bravely resisting and fighting the invading Russian army.

“On February 24, millions of us made a choice. Not the white flag, but the blue and yellow flag. Not running, but facing. Resisting and fighting. It was a year of pain, suffering, faith and unity. And it year, we remained unbeaten. We know that 2023 will be the year of our victory.”

In another video, Mr Zelensky recalled how he addressed Ukrainians in a hurried statement a year ago.

“A year ago on this day, around seven in the morning, I addressed you with a brief statement that lasted only 67 seconds,” Zelensky said in a 15-minute speech. Media.

Western military officials have estimated casualties on both sides of the conflict, the largest in Europe since World War II, at more than 100,000 killed or wounded.

Mr Zelensky, who has been leading from the front since Russian forces entered his country on February 24, also praised his people.

Mr. Zelensky has been instrumental in securing financial and military aid from around the world to maintain Ukrainian security. The US has promised Ukraine millions worth of weapons, including artillery ammunition, anti-armour systems and air defense radars.

Most recently, President Joe Biden made an unannounced visit to Kiev in a strong show of support ahead of the one-year anniversary of the war.
