In his virtual address, Zelensky called on G7 leaders to maintain support for Ukraine next year. He called the first move a “new force” and called on the G7 leaders to provide more military equipment, including modern tanks, artillery and long-range missiles, according to a statement released by the Ukrainian president’s office. The Ukrainian president stressed that the G7 countries need to maintain financial, energy and social stability next year.

He urged the G7 countries to increase assistance to Ukraine in the gas sector. He stressed that attacks against Ukraine’s power plants have forced them to use more gas than expected. In the third phase, Zelensky called for new diplomacy and emphasized that Ukraine has always taken the lead in the dialogue process.

Volodymyr Zelensky said in the address, “We need additional support in this particular winter. We are talking about a volume of about two billion cubic meters of gas, which has to be purchased additionally.” In his address, Zelensky called on Russia to take a “concrete and meaningful step” towards a diplomatic settlement, which he stressed is regularly mentioned by Moscow. He said he would have a holiday and called it a time for ordinary people to think about “peace, not aggression”.

He called on Russia to demonstrate that it was capable of abandoning aggression. “Very soon we will have holidays celebrated by billions of people. Christmas – according to the Gregorian calendar or New Year and Christmas – according to the Julian calendar. It’s time for ordinary people to think about peace, not aggression. I suggest that Russia should at least try to prove that it is capable of giving up aggression,” Zelensky said.

Volodymyr Zelensky further said, “It would be right to begin the withdrawal of Russian troops from the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine this Christmas. If Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine, it will ensure a permanent cessation of hostilities.”
