Unexpected trend of ‘Chennai rain’ on Twitter, heavy rain shook the city

Due to heavy rains in Chennai, residents posted clips of rain on Twitter and expressed their views. Some welcomed the rain and some said they were scared. The city has seen extreme climate events in December over the past few years, and no wonder they were concerned. There was another flock that welcomed the change in weather.

Here are some tweets:

“Show me something more beautiful than nature. It’s the end of December, where winter dominates, but it’s raining cats and dogs here in Chennai. It’s really unpredictable. Easter season is giving unexpected amounts of rain, It will be an unforgettable day! TC Chennai”

Tamil Nadu weatherman posted that it was one of the most unpredictable rains of the year. “Today’s rain is one of the most unpredictable insanely heavy rains in Chennai in recent years. Unseasonal rain in Nungambakkam. It seems that 1 or 2 stations will not cross 100mm in many places. The name of cloudburst is almost near and rain may continue for next 1 hour.”

Some, unfortunately, were stuck in traffic. “The Nungambakkam High Road must have been designed by Satan himself. He was trapped in it for more than an hour. What’s with this road that it’s always jammed while Cathedral Road is relatively free?” wrote one user.

A video which was being told of Egmore Stadium was going viral. “Shamiana tents descend one after another at @chennaipolice_

RR Stadium, Egmore, in strong winds and sudden rain. The police captured the video on the spot.”

“Waterlogging near Madras High Court after rain in Chennai. Video: Surya Kathir.”

“#ChennaiRains Suddenly Chennai Feels Like Ooty!!”

“Very heavy rain since last 30 minutes.”

Several videos showing waterlogging on the streets took to the internet as it was raining incessantly in the city.
