Union Budget doesn’t offer anything for common man: Former Puducherry CM

V. Narayanasamy said Union Budget 2022 serves only the interests of corporates

Former Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has said that the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has disappointed all sections of the society.

In a virtual statement, the former chief minister said the budget has nothing to offer the common man. He alleged that the annual budget serves only the interests of the corporates.

The middle and salaried class were expected to revise the income tax slabs. Instead of revising the slab, the government decided to retain the ₹2.5 lakh set by the United Progressive Alliance.

People from all walks of life were hoping for some relief due to the economic hardships caused by COVID-19. However, the government has failed to provide any relief to the poor and middle class, the former CM said.

Considering the large number of unemployed people in the country, the government’s announcement to create 80 lakh jobs was very little. He said the Center has also failed to improve the medical infrastructure in the country.

CPI secretary AM Salim said in a statement that the focus of the budget was for the benefit of corporate entities. He said the corporate surcharge was reduced from 12% to 7% to benefit the business community, while the allocation for the rural employment guarantee scheme was reduced from Rs 93,000 crore to Rs 73,000 crore. He said that the reduction in allocation is a fraud with the poor.

He also sought to know from the Prime Minister the status of his announcement of creating two crore jobs every year. “Overall the budget was very disappointing,” he said.
