Fashion e-commerce platform Meesho, which is known for selling goods at reasonable prices, has again become the talk of the town – but this time for a different reason. According to reports, Meesho has rolled out a new ‘Unlimited Vacation’Policy, which will ensure that an employee gets paid leave for up to 365 days. Under the Meesho MeCare program, company employees will be eligible for up to 365 days of paid leave if they or their loved ones are affected by any serious illness that requires frequent or frequent hospitalization . This policy will also be effective for employees who want to take some time off to follow a personal passion or purpose.

According to a report in The Economic Times, employees will be entitled to full salary payments during the entire tenure of the leave if they themselves are sick. For leave taken to care for sick family members, the employee will get up to 25 per cent of vacation time pay. Apart from compensation, special employees will also be eligible to get key benefits like provident fund contribution, insurance and additional medical benefits, the report said. However, leave will not be paid for those taking leave for non-medical reasons.

Meesho’s MeeCare program, of which this initiative is part, aims to promote the overall well-being of an employee and his/her family. The policy has a broad umbrella under which welfare initiatives are covered through a combination of policies, benefits and other interventions. Bengaluru-based Meesho currently has around 2,000 employees.

“We were seeing cases where employees needed longer leave to pursue personal goals, or needed extended time off if they were sick, or a family member was seriously ill. This new policy is a recognition of those needs,” Meesho CHRO Ashish Kumar Singh was quoted as saying by ET.

As per the report, Singh said, “We do not expect a large number of people to take advantage of this policy due to its nature, but we think it is a high impact programme.”

As part of the continuation of basic benefits under the program, employees will also be eligible for an assessment cycle based on their contribution during the period they were actively working. The report said that Meesho employees will be retained in their previous positions when they are able to return to work after the holiday. This will be done to ensure that the employees can return to work uninterrupted and revitalize their career path. If the role is not available at the time the employee joins, he or she will be placed in a parallel role of choice within another team.
