UP bus driver used water bottle to make makeshift wipers, video goes viral

The user tagged UPSRTC and Meerut division of the corporation on Twitter.

A video of an Indian bus driver’s bizarre solution to a defective wiper has gone viral on the internet. In a widely circulated video, a bus operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is seen parked. On the bus, the water bottle appears to be attached to the wiper. The driver has control over the wiper action, which is tied to the opposing side by means of a rope. The wiper is working with a hanging water bottle when the rope is moved.

A Twitter user Vipin Rathore shared the video on the popular microblogging platform. The caption of the video, which was loosely translated, read, “Viper working with ‘Jugaad’ in Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation bus.”

Jugaad is an informal Hindi word used in India to roughly mean “an inventive cure for snags” or “an instant solution made by the cunning and resourceful”.

The video has garnered a lot of likes and comments since it was posted on Twitter and other social media sites three days ago.

While some viewers were happy with the “jugaad” in the video, others questioned the UPSRTC’s position regarding the caliber of the vehicles.

One person commented in Hindi, which when translated into English reads, “Buses have to be pushed from behind because of their poor condition.” Another user tagged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and commented, “Sir, this is the situation in Uttar Pradesh.”

However, in response to the message, the Twitter account of UPSRTC Meerut said that the wiper had been fixed by October 8 and shared a video of an operational wiper.
